Art Rotterdam celebrates its 10 year anniversary

From 5 – 8 February 2009 the old Cruise Terminal building of the Holland America line will again be the stage for the tenth edition of Art Rotterdam. Art Rotterdam is one of the most energetic art fairs for contemporary art in Europe. A visit to the fair will keep you up to date about the latest developments in contemporary art and is the place to discover fresh talent. 75 galleries from ten different countries will present their most exciting artists. During the fair the city of Rotterdam is bubbling over with cultural activities. Object Rotterdam, the international fair for autonomous design, will take place in Las Palmas. The Kunsthal presents a large-scale retrospective of Giacommeti and Witte the With hosts a large-scale exhibition trilogy of Ian Wallace.

Portscapes will have its kick off during Art Rotterdam. Portscapes is the start of an ambitious art programme based around the construction of ‘Maasvlakte 2’, an entirely new area of land being reclaimed from the sea as a 2000 hectare expansion of the Port of Rotterdam. The programme is commissioned by the Port of Rotterdam Authority advised by SKOR Foundation Art and Public Space. On invitation by both parties the curatorial team Latitudes (Max Andrews & Mariana Cánepa Luna) developed a series of projects and events taking place throughout the year 2009 and will make the harbour accessible for the public by artist-designed tours, sculptures, actions, screenings, and mobile seminars. Artists to be included: Hans Schabus, Cyprien Gaillard, Lara Almarcegui, Bik van der Pol, Michael Rakowitz, Jorge Satorre, Ilana Halperin, Christina Hemauer & Roman Keller, Fucking Good Art, Marjolijn Dijkman and Samira Ben Laloua.

Art Rotterdam 2008 Ninth edition Art Rotterdam very successful

The ninth edition of Art Rotterdam was a great success. Over 11.000 artlovers visited the Art Fair in the past five days. Compared to the 2007 edition Art Rotterdam attracted more people from abroad. The international press was very enthusiastic and described Art Rotterdam as an Art Fair where plenty of new talent could be discovered. The (international) galleries were also very satisfied. Chemould Prescott Road Gallery (Bombay) sold all the works of Anant Joshi and Gallery Willem van Zoetendaal the entire installation of Sarah Blokland to Caldic. Caldic immediately gave the installation in loan to the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. The Scheringa Museum bought an installation of Sylvia B.
