Raising the profile of modern and contemporary art in Canada

The Toronto International Art Fair, Canada’s premier fair for international modern and contemporary art celebrates is sixth anniversary with ART TORONTO 2005, November 3 – 7th 2005 at the Toronto Metro Convention centre, 255 Front Street West, Toronto, Canada. 81 galleries from 13 countries will show and sell a vibrant mix of leading modern and contemporary works by established and emerging artists.

Considered a valued and respected player in the highly competitive international art scene the Toronto International Art Fair has made its mark through a unique, strategic mix of limited gallery participants underpinned with strong cultural programming which engages browsers, novice collectors and seasoned professionals. Committed to providing a solid foundation of national participants the Fair has become the galvanizing vehicle for the Canadian visual arts industry attracting every important dealer across Canada. Adding to this foundation is a growing roster of International participants and celebrated curatorial exhibits proving Canada’s rising profile in the global cultural market. ART TORONTO offers visitors a selective overview of the contemporary and modern art market. Exhibiting galleries range from edgy to established and provide a diverse visual experience of art works to see and collect and is the only event of its kind in Canada.

TIAF considers cultural programming a keystone to the Fair’s vibrancy and success. For ART TORONTO 2005 the Fair has dedicated over 10,000 square feet for special exhibits within the Fair walls! International in scope, current and thought provoking these curated exhibits explore diverse and relevant concepts about art today. Non commercial projects such as The News at Five, The Video Lounge and Art Rising add context, interest and dialogue to the Fair’s commercial mandate.

In addition this year the fair is pleased to present an unprecedented free public interactive installation in the public spaces of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. INTERACTIVE 05 is a novel installation using various mediums that explore the aesthetic experience as dependent on physical interaction with the “art work.”

In addition TIAF presents another lineup of dynamic celebrated speakers and panels to discuss collecting, the role of institutions in our communities and other relevant topics affecting the visual arts today.
