arteBA2006: A unique blend to discover A perfect combination of features of a hybrid origin make Buenos Aires a unique city, one to remain in your senses a long time after your visit. A city which concurrently offers the architectonic beauty of its sumptuous past, the exciting night life of a cosmopolitan city, and the sensuality and tempo of its Latin American roots.

These characteristics flow and drain in an intense artistic production and a cultural movement that take place in venues like Malba-Colección Constantini, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Museo de Arte Moderno and a huge circuit of centers and art galleries –established or alternative ones– where something is on the move.

During six days, arteBA Feria de Arte Contemporáneo, the most visited cultural event in Buenos Aires city and the most important in Latin America, concentrates this energy and becomes a tourist attraction pole and an art business center. The art fair is visited by most outstanding collectors and culture representatives, with a thirst to discover different proposals, inspire new airs and ignore those who simply offer the same old stuff.

This is the right time for galleries to exhibit their best Latin American art works, thus favoring the public’s meeting with collection pieces. It’s also a moment for the new spaces in the region to introduce their youngest artists working within the latest trends, those not to be found in other art fairs.

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, the United States, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela will be in a permanent exchange during this meeting which has become a must in the annual agenda for the visual arts.

Highlights: - arteBA-Petrobras Award for the Visual arts, one of the most expected and controversial awards in the art scene, devoted to emerging artists who have the opportunity to produce original artistic projects.

- arteBA-Zurich Matching Funds Program, through which specially selected Argentine museums are given the chance during the art fair, to purchase works which will become part of their public collections.

- International Acquisitions Funds Program for foreign museums. On this occasion the Museo del Barrio de New York and the Jack S. Blanton Museum at Austin, both accompanied by their patrons, will visit the fair to purchase paradigmatic Latin American art pieces

- arteBA2006 Auditorium Program, in which the cycle Latin American Circuits / Media Circuits: interaction, roles and perspectives is held, with the presence of outstanding guests coming from abroad.

- Barrio Joven / Emerging Spaces, where the most daring and innovative proposals of Argentine artistic production are exhibited.

- Caja Negra / Cubo Blanco (Black Box / White Cube) - Space for Videos opens for the first time in arteBA Fair an area devoted to the most applauded video art works coming from outstanding collections in international museums and galleries in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia and Mexico.

- arteBA2006 Program for Collectors, a full agenda for collectors which includes private viewings within arteBA and also visits to public and private collections, artists’ studios, contemporary art galleries, invitations for exclusive events and delight of what is best in Buenos Aires

arteBA–Petrobras Visual Arts Award Third Edition

The arteBA-Petrobras Award for the Visual Arts has become one of the most expected and controversial in the local scenario. Meant for artistic projects made on a grant and then exhibited in the Fair, the arteBA-Petrobras Award for the Visual Arts generates much debate in the area of the Fair as well as in the media.

During the fair, the third edition of the Award will be presented. This will provide a chance for artists from all over the country to produce their projects within an unusual space of exchange and confrontation fostered through a group clinic of the art piece, held during two months prior to the opening of the fair and under the directors of this third edition of the Award, Ms. Eva Grinstein and Mr. Santiago García Navarro.
