press release

Rotterdam-based artist, Joep van Lieshout, presents his work under the name Atelier van Lieshout to acknowledge the collaborative nature of his enterprise. He designs practical furniture, mobile homes and living units, that have a handcrafted and physical aspect that negate modernist forms and suggest a survivalist mentality. His architectural sculptures create an alluring yet somewhat perverse atmosphere. He is able to infuse objects and create environments that strongly effect the viewer or inhabitant. Visitors will have the opportunity to walk through, climb on, and sit in van Lieshout's works.

The USF Contemporary Art Museum is pleased to organize and travel the first major exhibition in the United States of this artist who is emerging on the international art scene. The project was curated by the director of the USF CAM, Margaret A. Miller and independent curator, Jade Dellinger.
