press release

A new contemporary art museum has been born in the historical city of Kumamoto. This opening is marked by the commemorative "Kumamoto International Art Exhibition: ATTITUDE 2002 - One Truth in Your Heart." This exhibition, which features 12 countries including Japan and 28 individuals and four artist groups, addresses their attitudes. Surely the act of terrorism that occurred in New York on September 11 of last year was something that had a large impact on all of us. However, when it comes to the casual events of our everyday lives, people's attitudes tend to be indifferent in regard to the shape of human truths. Whether in regard to big events or small events, art and its accompanying attitudes serve as a filter through which human truths can be seen. There is only one truth in all of our hearts. Attitude overcomes our words and behavior and comes close to this truth. "Kumamoto International Art Exhibition: ATTITUDE 2002 - One Truth in Your Heart," occurring in a space originally intended to facilitate this process, strives to serve as a place of truth.
