Imagine putting drawings by Edward Gorey, paintings by Henry Darger, and Hergé's illustrations for his Tintin books into a blender. The result might begin to approach the work of Marcel Dzama.

Dzama, who lives and works in Winnipeg, Canada, has taken the art world by storm over the past few years with his quirky, hilarious, and sometimes disturbing drawings. Colored with everything from traditional ink to root beer base, Dzama's narratives are deceptively simple and delicate. In his world trees and animals swap heads with humans, children sprout wings like bats, and knife fights and bloodshed are almost a certainty.

Although only 29, Dzama has had solo exhibitions in New York, Santa Monica, London, and in 2003 was included in the Corcoran Biennial, Washington, DC.
