Camp Catalogue – Jérémie Gindre

From February 11 to May 8, 2016, La Kunsthalle Mulhouse is pleased to be presenting Camp Catalogue by Swiss artist and writer Jérémie Gindre.

My first is a camp, a place which suggests a temporary installation, although it is very organized, in natural zones which are sometimes made for this and other times improvised. Camps are generally a base, a meeting place, and the starting point for an adventure or an excursion.

My second is a catalogue, designed to provide an inventory of what can be discovered at the camp and around it. The catalogue is a poetic, but precise, list of certain geographies, varieties of animals and behavioural types.

My whole is Camp Catalogue, an exhibition by Jérémie Gindre which is presented like the setting for countless stories, already written or waiting to be written. After setting up at La Criée de Rennes for the first step in summer, and then going to the Kiosk in Ghent, Belgium, the camp will deploy to Mulhouse in winter, and adapt to this new season.

To date, he has published around twelve books of different forms—novel, short stories, essay, diary, graphic novel, photo story—and put together numerous exhibitions with drawings, sculptures and texts. His works clearly show his interest in geography and history, and focus in particular on questions in the domains of geology, archaeology, conceptual art, neuroscience, apiculture and tourism.

His works have been presented at the Kunsthaus Baselland, Muttenz, Switzerland; the Kunstmuseum Thun, Switzerland; the Museo de Arte Moderno, Buenos Aires; the Kunsthalle Fri-Art, Fribourg, Switzerland; and at the Centre d'art contemporain La Criée, Rennes, France, among others. He is represented by the gallery Chert in Berlin.

He has been published by Fink, Boabooks, Rollo Press and Motto. His last collection of short stories On a eu du mal was published in 2013 by Editions de l'Olivier.
