Caro Jost & Roland Wirtz

ALP GALLERIES announces with pleasure the Opening, at its new Gallery Space in Frankfurt, of an Exhibition with two exceptional German artists: Caro Jost and Roland Wirtz, featuring the newest works of Caro’s streetprint art and Roland’s large scale photography. The Opening is also a Preview for art.fair Cologne where Alp Galleries will show the artists’ works at booth D6 from November 2 to 5.

Caro Jost’s signature works are Streetprints: she takes real imprints from prominent streets and squares in metropolitan centers around the world: New York, Shanghai, London and Frankfurt, and applies them to canvas – a unique form of documenting location and time. The resulting images appear abstract and are yet very concrete.

ALP GALLERIES has staged solo shows with Caro (first time in New York) in 2002 and in Munich 2005, and has shown her work in group shows and at art fairs such as Art Shanghai and Art Miami. Her work is represented in important private and corporate collections. Caro lives and works in Munich but travels worldwide.

Roland Wirtz employs the technology developed by the pioneers of photography like Fox-Talbot in 1839: calotype and saltprint. But he has taken the process to a completely new dimension reaching to the limits of physical feasibility: in his latest series “Ninety Minutes”, shot in soccer stadiums with exposure over the full length of the game, he uses an extremely large custom-built camera to produce the format 127x220cm – negative and positive are of the same size. The result are images, allegedly static, but strongly atmospheric.

ALP GALLERIES has shown Roland’s work in a solo show (first time in New York) in 2003, in group shows and also at Art Shanghai. A number of his works are included in “Casting a New Light”, a photography exhibition currently touring various cities in the USA. His work is represented in important collections, including Deutsche Boerse, Frankfurt. Roland lives and works in Berlin.
