press release

LFL Gallery is pleased to present a series of new paintings by Leipzig-based artist, Christoph Ruckhäberle. The exhibition will run between June 25 and July 31, 2004.

In Ruckhäberle's paintings, interior rooms set the stage for tall young men and women dressed in simple clothes. The dancing, standing, and sitting figures perform a variety of acts, often with blank stares or somber expressions. The characters, composed in classical poses, contrast with the relaxed rooms. These rooms are like theatrical backdrops where play is carried out with grim faces and animated gestures. Using neutral colors and his signature figure-groups, Ruckhäberle transforms public locations into centers for relaxation. Stages with no directors, the paintings become places where boredom and possibility co-exist.

This is Christoph Ruckhäberle's first show in the United States and his first solo show with LFL Gallery. Previous solo exhibitions include LIGA Gallery, Berlin in 2002 and 2003. He was included at the Prague Biennial in 2003 and at the Museum of Visual Art, Leipzig in 2003.
