Corridor III: VALDEMAR DAA

Philosopher's Stone is one of the most wanted treasures in alchemy world and for centuries alchemists around the world tried to compose and create the magic potion that is said to give eternal life and make the base noble. Around the year 1660 was the Danish alchemist Valdemar Daa convinced that he had found the Philosopher's Stone, but according to the story went vial containing the precious liquid into pieces, and Daa was never able to prove his findings.

Starting at this specific moment in the late 1660s, invite the exhibition "Corridor III: Valdemar Daa" visitors to step into a mindset where various forms of mystical knowledge and belief prevailed over the today valid science. The visitors will be able to take a journey through alchemy mysticism, the human belief in natural materials potential to contain amazing powers and one person's extreme search for it immediately impossible.

At Viborg Kunsthal will situ develop an exhibition where each room will explore specific issues related to Valdemar Daa, which today lies buried in the Cathedral. The exhibition will present a mix of specially commissioned artworks and existing works by both established and emerging artists as well as a presentation of research based artifacts from collaborate with experts from other fields.

situ is a curatorial initiative consisting of Marie Graftieaux, Nora Mayr, Gilles Neiens and Lauren Reid, and a non-profit exhibition space for contemporary art in Berlin founded in 2012.

The Sleepover

In the project 'The Sleepover' takes a number of artists, groups of artists and curators stay in Riddergade AIR, Viborg Kunsthal artist's residence. Based on art halls special expertise in working with the vibrant and creative artists, they have the residency stay had the opportunity to develop new ways of thinking about art institutions and their resources. The result is three exhibition periods when the art center frame, exhibitions and networking rethought.
