press release

Since the early 1960s, sculptor David Rabinowitch has developed a singular body of work that combines the apparently contrasting fields of gravity and perspective. This is evidenced, for example, by the seminal cycle of drawings he has undertaken since 1969, entitled Construction of Vision. Observed essential elements materialize as a compression of the vertical and expansion of the horizontal, anchoring the works’ myriad perspectives in proportion to the human scale. Organized in collaboration by the National Gallery of Canada and the Musée d´art contemporain, Montréal,  this exhibition is one of the first large-scale Canadian presentations of work by this artist, who has been living in New York since 1972. The show will highlight the cyclical development of Rabinowitch’s rigorous and concise sculptural and drawing techniques, largely inspired by the interrelationships between science, literature, and philosophy.
