Celebrating the centenary of the artist’s birth in 1906, David Smith: A Centennial will bring together over 120 seminal sculptures dating from 1932 to 1965, as well as important examples of the artist's drawings and notebooks. The first retrospective of Smith’s work in New York City since the Guggenheim’s in 1969, this presentation will provide audiences with the opportunity to understand the complexity of Smith’s aesthetic concerns as well as his impact on the course of twentieth-century sculpture.
