Doug Aitken: I AM IN YOU

With his newest project I AM IN YOU, Doug Aitken carries his conception of the empirical verification of communication and virtuality further: In the darkened setting of the exhibition room, the visitor is confronted with a tall, room-filling video sculpture, which attempts to attract the visitor by means of light and abstractly humming acoustics.

On close examination of these light-emitting screens, we become aware of images that slowly seep into the picture as "ghost images from other moments in time" (Aitken), sometimes giving it an almost three-dimensional quality. Attracted by the movements of this picture, the visitor is simultaneously referred to further screens hidden in the dark. Through subtle changes of minimal time shifts and synchronization, these screens reveal a panorama of varied forms of appearance of our perception, the meaning of which the viewer must develop in a narrative exploration with the work.
