press release

i8 is pleased to announce Transects, an exhibition featuring paintings by Eggert Pétursson and photographs by Friederike von Rauch.

Friederike von Rauch photographs spaces; architecture, individual rooms, or a mere detail. Her works are powerful compositions of light and shadow, where colours have been reduced to a bare minimum and the framing and angles chosen with great care. Charged with stillness and attention, they seek to grasp the intangible.

Eggert Pétursson’s paintings are a meticulous exploration of Icelandic flora. For Transects, Pétursson has embraced the square format of von Rauch’s photographs as well as her sparse colour scheme and chosen as his subjects plants that are naturally bland in colour.

Eggert Pétursson, born in Reykjavik in 1956, lives and works in Reykjavik. Friederike von Rauch, born in Freiburg in 1967, lives and works in Berlin. In conjunction with the exhibition, the artists have produced a special collaborative edition: a photograph by von Rauch onto which Pétursson has painted a delicate plant. The framed work, in the edition of twenty, is 34 x 34 cm.
