press release

"Wave Optics" is the large-scale painting (360 x 600 cm), from the impressive new body of work by Eleni Christodoulou, and is at the core of her first solo exhibition at The Breeder.

On its vast painterly surface four intertwined scenarios unfold between the almost lost mathematical greed, created by sixty wooden panels, that over float with coloured wax. All together, Polar Aurora, Vortloop, Arkadian and Cosmic Debris have the power to effortlessly draw us inside this multi-dimensional virtual topos, constructed of spatial arrangements in skewed geometry.

An intriguing exchange of loops, vortexes, colours and built-in narratives, are organised in a manner not dissimilar to "flat screen" monitors and thus creating an all over spatial impression. An impression intended to manipulate the retina and distort the laws of visual perspective, misleading us to the sensation that the painting extends in a zooming in and out manner

Her use of colour is bold, flat, non-hierarchical and free of any shading techniques. The use of the three preliminary colours enhance this dimensional topos fragmented by black and white lines, whose purpose is to perpetuate endlessly, devouring space.
