press release

This exhibition consists of 12 chalk drawings on paper by Frida Kahlo and 10 oil-on-paper drawings by Diego Rivera. Commissioned in 1951 by Olga Campos, a friend of the artists, the works were created in response to a variety of human emotions such as love, hate, grief, and anger. Each painting presents simple, bold, colorful, and highly personal reflections. Lent by Patty and Jim Cownie, this exhibition is an extraordinary opportunity to view intimate expressions by these Mexican artists, two of modern art’s most unique practitioners. This exhibition is organized by Curator of Prints Amy Worthen.
