press release

Albion Africa, African Albion is an exhibition of work created and curated by a group of young people and inspired by the artists in Tate Liverpool’s current special exhibition Afro Modern: Journeys through the Black Atlantic.

The youngsters created their exciting new work following consultation with artist Laurence Payot and artist and youth worker Osaretin Felix Ologbosere. Also on display in the exhibition will be a contemporary media and dance video of performance by Breckfield Young People's Project (BYPP), also created in response to Afro Modern.

Tate Liverpool’s Youth and Community Curator, Cathriona Burke, said, “The young people involved in Albion at Tate were completely new to the arts when they started out. We hope they will go on to become young leaders, encouraging their peers to get involved in the arts too.”

The young people will be working with Tate’s art handlers to hang their work in the gallery on Friday 2 April and will host their own exhibition launch on Saturday 3 April.
