Frieze London & Frieze Masters 2015

Frieze London features over 160 of the world’s most exciting galleries. View and buy art from over 1,000 of today’s leading artists, and experience the fair’s critically acclaimed Frieze Projects and Frieze Talks. In 2014, the fair also introduced Live – a new section dedicated to ambitious performance-based installations. Frieze London is housed in a bespoke structure in The Regent’s Park, in the heart of London, within easy walking distance of the city’s West End.

Frieze Projects

The artists and collectives participating in Frieze Projects 2015 are ÅYRBRB, Lutz Bacher, castillo/corrales, Thea Djordjadze, Jeremy Herbert, Asad Raza and Rachel Rose, winner of the 2015 Frieze Artist Award.

Inspired by the temporary structure of Frieze London, this year’s Frieze Projects offer encounters with alternative realities conceived by artists, architects, set designers and publishers.

Experience seven new projects and explore the potential of temporary and mobile architectures: from the caves of the Greek god Pan to a 'Smart Home' deep within the fair.

Initiated in 2003, Frieze Projects is a unique non-profit platform for emerging, under-represented and innovative practices to show work within Frieze London, one of the world's leading contemporary art fairs. Frieze Projects and the Frieze Artist Award are supported by the LUMA Foundation and curated by Nicola Lees.

Frieze Artist Award

The winner of the 2015 Frieze Artist Award is New York-based artist Rachel Rose. Supported by the LUMA Foundation, the Frieze Artist Award allows an emerging artist to realise a major commission at Frieze London as part of the critically acclaimed Frieze Projects programme.

At Frieze London 2015, Rose will create a scale-model of the fair structure. Inside, lighting and sound design will simulate the sonic and visual sense frequencies of animals inhabiting the Regent’s Park. Drawing attention to the park’s multiple layers of communication and perception, Rose will open up a spectrum of sensory worlds for fair visitors to inhabit and experience. This commission invites Rose – who has previously worked in film – to pursue an ambitious installation-based project.

Rachel Rose (b. 1986) lives and works in New York. Her forthcoming solo exhibitions include those at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Castello di Rivoli, Turin and the Aspen Art Museum.

Now in its second year, the Frieze Artist Award is a high-profile initiative from Frieze Projects, inviting an artist to create a site-specific artwork at Frieze London under the auspices of Frieze Projects. Rose’s proposal was selected from over 1,200 applications by artists from all over the world. The selection committee for the Frieze Artist Award 2015 was Bonnie Camplin (artist), Raimundas Malasauskas (curator and writer), Hans Ulrich Obrist (Co-director of Exhibitions and Programmes and Director of International Projects at the Serpentine Gallery, London) and Nicola Lees (Curator, Frieze Projects), with Frieze Artistic Director Jo Stella-Sawicka acting as chair.

About the Frieze Artist Award

Now in its second year, the Frieze Artist Award sits within a rich history 
of artist awards presented at Frieze London, including the Emdash Award (2011-2013) and the Cartier Award (2006-2010). The winner of the inaugural Frieze Artist Award was French artist Mélanie Matranga.

One of the world’s leading contemporary art fairs, Frieze London will take place from 14 to 17 October 2015 in Regent’s Park, London and is sponsored by Deutsche Bank.
