From Callot to Greuze

In 2003, an outstanding assemblage of objects, buildings, gardens, and collections was created with the union of two museums in Weimar, Germany, now known as Stiftung Weimarer Klassik und Kunstammlungen. The exhibition presents a selection of approximately seventy drawings from this integrated institution and offers American audiences a unique viewing opportunity, as many of these works have never been seen outside of Weimar. Sheets by such masters as Jacques Callot, Charles Lebrun, Claude Lorrain, Jacques Bellange, Simon Vouet, Jean-Antoine Watteau, François Boucher, Charles-Joseph Natoire, Jean-Baptiste Greuze, and Charles-Louis Clérisseau, among others, are included. From Callot to Greuze is co-organized with the Schlossmuseum, Germany, where it debuts in October 2004. It then travels to a second venue before opening at The Frick Collection in June 2005. The exhibition's fourth and final venue is the Musée Jacquemart-André, Paris. Chief Curator Colin B. Bailey is coordinating the exhibition at The Frick Collection.

The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue, which is published by G & H Verlag, Berlin, and is available in three languages (English, French, and German). Pierre Rosenberg, former Director of the Louvre Museum, is the principal author, with Dr. Hermann Mildenberger, Chief Curator, Drawings and Prints, of the Stiftung Weimarer Klassik und Kunstammlungen, contributing an essay, and Colin B. Bailey writing the foreword for the English version.
