press release

The first major retrospective exhibition of work by Winogrand in Spain, curated by Carlos Gollonet and shown in Madrid and Bilbao. Winogrand is renowned as a magnificent portraitist of the reality of the United States between the 1950s and the 1970s. This is photography in its purest state, with no resemblance to painting. His work reflects his themes of choice: portraits of women, street life, the lost world of zoos and the political changes of his era, including John F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign in 1960 and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
