This temporary Turbine Hall display explores how a variety of sculptors have represented the human head over the last hundred years. The display, which includes over forty 'heads' from the Tate Collection, reveals the changing styles, techniques and attitudes which have been applied to the representation of the human head. Works on display range from August Rodin's Balzac 1892, the epitome of a commemorative portrait bust, to Gilbert and George's most recent video works which demonstrate how performance art has extended the language of portraiture into video. Also on display are works by Jacob Epstein, Alberto Giacometti and Bruce Nauman.
