Hélion

Galerie Patrice Trigano presents an exhibition of Jean Hélion with his figurative period works from the 1940s to the 1980s.

The exhibition comes in conjuction with the one presented by the Centre Georges Pompidou, which integrates his abstract period from the 1920s and 1930s.

Hélion is most likely the only artist to have taken the course from abstraction to figuration - the majority of painters from the 20th century have chosen the opposite course.

It is fascinating, in his figurative period, to see how Hélion has come into figuration and integrated the lessons of abstraction. All this while he remains faithful to the imagary of daily life in its apparent banality. It is this banality that Hélion knew, in the art of the 20th century, to elevate to mythical levels. It is through this subject of his work that the mythological theme of daily life is the most adapted.

Bringing hommage to this master, we certainly hope not to miss evoking his role as a precursor and initiator. He played these roles in regards to the Narrative Figuration and American Pop-Art movements.
