Hiraki Sawa: Under the Box, Beyond the Bounds comes to the AGGV following its recent presentation at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery in Japan. This is the first comprehensive exhibition of Sawa's work in Canada, featuring intimately scaled and monumental video works from throughout the artist’s career. Ranging from Dwelling (2002), in which tiny airplanes travel throughout the interior spaces of a typically British flat, to recent works like Lineament (2012), which was inspired by a friend suffering from amnesia, all of Sawa’s images possess a subtly fantastic quality resulting from his dexterous combination of live footage and animation.

Sawa was born in Ishikawa, Japan in 1977 and currently lives in London, England. His work has been presented internationally.
