press release

Art is open for subjective and objective critique but when the viewer is moved enough to deface a work, an inappropriate line is crossed. In Response is an opportunity for artists to express their content or distaste with a piece of artwork via creative means. Rather than turning to inherently violent reactions, we ask for positive, progressive, and thoughtful feedback.

We have chosen and borrowed Return to X 2011, a Kathryn Andrews sculpture from the De La Cruz Collection. The piece contains a rental clown costume leased from a Hollywood prop house for a 99 year lease. This challenges the future prosperity of the prop house and opens dialogue between the art and film worlds. Andrews approach to appropriating film materials is the jump off point for In Response. Artists include: Kathryn Andrews, Julian Gilbert-Davis, Bletchley, Betty Fleisher, Mattias Fritsch, Anne Wölk, Juan Negroni, Pamela Palma, Christian Bernard, Troy Simmons, Bletchley, Ernesto Kunde, Anica Shpilberg, Carolina Rojas, Jason Aponte, Dana Donaty, Marcia Ramos-Perello, Gerbi Tsesarskaia, Brenna Quinn, Tina Salveson, Harvey Zipkin and Rosaria Pugliese.
