Isaac Julien is one of Britain's most innovative video artists. Graduating from the St. Martin's School of Art, where he studied painting and fine art film. In 2001, he was nominated for the Turner Prize. His works are part of the world's top collections - including Tate Modern, Centrum Pompidou, Guggenheim and Hirshhorn Museums. Isaac Julien has lectured at Harvard, the Whitney Museum and the University of London. At Warsaw's Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle the artist presents his latest, an impressive five channel video installation WESTERN UNION: small boats, which is a reflection on the social costs of economic migration to Europe. The piece is also a dialogue with Visconti's classic film, "The Leopard."

The exhibit will consist of a five-channel projection and presentation of monumental 3-meter light-boxes from the WESTERN UNION: small boats cycle. Isaac Julien piece will fill the space of Galeria 2, taking four rooms totaling over 400 m2. The artist deploys cutting-edge technology - 5.1 surround sound, film editing and choreography, to create a collage of sight and sound in a uniquely dynamic video installation.

WESTERN UNION: small boats is the third part of a trilogy of audiovisual installations, the other two parts of which are True North (2004) and Fantôme Afrique (2005). A part of the latter projection, Phantôme Creole, was shown at CCA in 2006 as part of the Touch My Shadows. New media from the Goetz Collection exhibition, to rave reviews from the public. Visitors to the CCA exhibition will have an opportunity to see the work of one of the world's most fascinating artists, adored by critics and public around the world. The latest technology, masterful choreography, depth and topicality of Julien's themes along with the cinematic beauty of the works guarantee his shows are unforgettable.

The exhibition is accompanied by a film screening repertoire on May 4, 23, 24, 30, and 31 at Kino.Lab
