press release

Chicago – the Museum of Contemporary Photography (MoCP) is proud to present an innovative exhibition by artist Jan Tichy that utilizes the vast resources of the MoCP permanent collection. Tichy will install collection objects in the Museum’s galleries and create a number of his signature original, site-specific light and video installations based on the objects and the collection as a whole.

Since 1980, the MoCP’s permanent collection has been an invaluable research and educational resource for the general public and students. The collection continues to grow, and in 2009 the entire collection was made available online to the general public. Tichy’s project extends the reach of the MoCP collection and enhances connections between the institution and the community. Over the course of the past year, Tichy has been working with a group of graduate students from Columbia College Chicago, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the University of Chicago to identify and develop strategies for better access to the online collection database. Using tagging applications, website design strategies and interactive elements, Tichy and the students hope that a larger community will find new ways to access and engage with the artworks housed at the MoCP…
