Die Galerie Michael Janssen Berlin freut sich, Jin Meyersons erste Einzelausstellung in Deutschland zu präsentieren. Meyerson, 1972 in Südkorea geboren und in den USA aufgewachsen, lebt und arbeitet in New York und Paris. Seine Arbeiten sind in den letzten Jahren in internationalen Institutionen und Galerien, darunter dem Chelsea Art Museum NY und der Saatchi Gallery London, gezeigt worden.

Jin Meyerson, Teil einer mit Massenmedien aufgewachsenen Generation von Künstlern, sammelt das Treibgut der täglichen Bilderflut und schickt es, durch den Kosmos seiner privaten Existenz gefiltert zurück auf die Leinwand. Die perspektivisch verzerrten und verschlungenen Motive von Naturkatastrophenwie dem verheerenden Sturm ‘Katrina’, den Angriffen auf das World Trade Center oder aus dem Afghanistankrieg wecken in ihrer grellen CNN-Ästhetik beklemmende Erinnerungen an kollektives Entsetzen und lähmende Hilflosigkeit. Jin Meyerson, der sich mit seinen Arbeiten in der Nähe von Videokünstlern wie Paul Pfeiffer und Christian Marclay sieht, komprimiert simultane Ereignisse im Stil klassischer Historiengemälde zu dichten, unruhigen Oberflächen.

Jin Meyerson, born in South Korea in 1972 and raised in the USA, lives and works in New York and Paris. In recent years, Meyerson’s pictures have been exhibited at many international institutes and galleries, including the Chelsea Art Museum NY and the Saatchi Gallery London. Michael Janssen is proud to present his first solo exhibition in Germany.

Jin Meyerson, self-confessed visual junkie and part of an artistic generation which grew up under the influence of mass media, collects the flotsam and jetsam of a daily flow of images and filters it back onto canvas via the cosmos of his private existence. Intricate, distorted motifs of natural catastrophes like the devastating hurricane, 'Katrina', the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and images from the war in Afghanistan trigger nightmarish memories of collective horror and paralysing helplessness with their lurid, CNN aesthetics. Jin Meyerson, who positions himself close to videoartists like Paul Pfeiffer and Christian Marclay, combines and overlays simultaneous events and thus creates dense and uneasy surfaces reminiscent of historical paintings.
