press release

Art Gallery T293 will inaugurate its new exhibition space in Piazza G. Amendola with a debut Jordan Wolfson (U.S.A, 1980) one-man show. T293 is doubling its size and potential to promote young Italian and international artists in their research and give them the opportunity to meet the public vis-à-vis. In this exhibition Jordan Wolfson will present a new, site-specific, project entitled Jeim-no-pedti. This sound installation consists of the playing, in the empty and virgin-white gallery space, of a re-elaboration and piano performance by the artist’s mother, of Gymnopédie n°1 (1888) composed by Erik Satie (1866-1925). The imprecision and deliberate mistakes in the performance represent the conceptual focus point toward which the project gravitates. Wolfson transforms the exhibition space into a sort of place for “feet gymnastics” (Gymnopédie) and the white floor will not be cleaned as long as the installation is present. The invisible work on display creates a sense of disorientation caused by the incomplete and precarious sound defects. The setting acquires new aesthetic details, which we tend to discard, as we do with errors and randomness, but which have always inspired contemporary artistic research.
