press release

For his upcoming solo show at MW projects Julian Rosefeldt, a film and video artist residing in Berlin, will present the first part of his new work Trilogy of failure. The works are inspired by the organisation of everyday life and its corresponding stereotypes. In his video installations, Rosefeldt creates a senseof alienation and exaggeration through his depiction of the structures, routines and rituals by which our existence is defined. The video installation, entitled Stunned Man, depicts a fictitious portrait that is as precise as it is proneto falling into the absurd. The character is trapped in conversation with his alter ego. The dialogue is unconscious and obsessive, with the character acting as Sisyphus in his own universe. Thispsychological portrait is reflected in the multi-layered construction of the video installation, which alludes to films such as “The Truman Show”. Rosefeldt’s Stunned man is a sensorial machine whosets out to test the borders of the possible and the rational. (Adapted from a text by Anselm Franke)
