press release

On 12 June, 2004, Kunsthallen Brandts Klædefabrik opens its new, double-height gallery. On this occasion, the young, German painter Katharina Grosse, as the first artist ever, is to work in this seven-meter-high space. For quite a few years Kunsthallen has been presenting exhibitions that follow up the development of contemporary, international painting; it was therefore a natural choice to invite an outstanding representative of contemporary painting to inaugurate our new gallery. Katharina Grosse’s work suggests modern American painters of the ’50s and ’60s, when, exerting great physical strength, she climbs along walls and under ceilings with her spray gun, transforming her surroundings into explosions of chaotic, seductive expanses of colour.
