Keren Cytter & D.I.E NOW - The True Story Of John Webber And His Endless Struggle With The Table of Content

If I Can't Dance, I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution presents History In The Making, a new performance by Keren Cytter created in collaboration with D.I.E NOW (Dance International Europe Now), a dance company recently founded by Cytter.

History in the Making is the culmination of a project that Cytter has developed over the last year, working with performance for the first time in her career, within the framework of If I Can't Dance… Edition III, Masquerade. The project has evolved through a series of live and video works into a dance-theater play, in which Cytter explores the theme of masquerade by addressing identity construction, politics and ultimately revolution.

Protagonists John Webber and Linda Schultz are confronted by a radical sex change; its impact on perception affects the experiences and intricacies of their daily lives, leading to dramatic consequences. Cytter plays with language, imagery, choreography and light to create a highly stylized theatrical performance, addressing these ideas with insight and humour.

This performance will tour internationally to Tate Modern (London), Performa 09 (New York), Hebbel Am Ufer (Berlin), Van Abbemuseums (Eindhoven).

If I Can't Dance I Don't Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution is a rolling curatorial platform based in Amsterdam. Interested in visual art practices, its main focus is to explore performance and its diverse typologies, both practically and conceptually, by working in collaboration with institutions and artists. Operating from its new research centre in Amsterdam, it produces projects and programmes that have evolving manifestations in different international institutions. The basic tone is set by the artists who are invited to develop new pieces, staged in repertory.

Keren Cytter (1977) currently lives and works in Berlin. Recent solo exhibitions include CCA Center for Contemporary Art, Kitakyushu (2009), X-intiative, NY (2009) Witte de With, Rotterdam (2008), and MUMOK, Vienna (2007). Her work is currently featured in the 53rd Venice Biennale and was included in group shows such as Television Delivers People, the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2008), Manifesta 7, Trentino (2008) and the Yokohama Triennial, Yokohama (2008). She was nominated for the Preis der Nationalgalerie für Junge Kunst 2009, Berlin.
