press release

cubus-m, Berlin is pleased to announce 'Talking Business', the second solo show of Berlin based artist Kerstin Honeit with the gallery.

In her video works, installations and performances, Kerstin Honeit deals with issues from socio- and genderpolitical contexts. A central element of her work is the exploration of hegemonial imagery within the field of media production. She examines the technique of synchronisation in films as well as lip syncing, in which the lips would move along with a spoken text, and questions the coherence of body and voice, the construct of characters, stereotypes and identities.
For her new work 'Talking Business', she particularly concentrates on the matter of re-enactment and doubling in the process of synchronisation. Over a period of two years and in close colaboration with voice actresses Ursula Heyer and Gisela Fritsch she collected material on the subject of dubbing films. 30 years ago, the two actresses lend their voices to the fictional characters Krystle Carrington and Alexis Carrington Colby from the TV series 'Dynasty' for the German television market, and therefore an identity with no relation to their own body.
