Kirsten Everberg

1301PE is pleased to present its second one-person exhibition by Los Angeles based artist Kirsten Everberg. The exhibition will present a series of new paintings from her recent commission by the city of Nancy, France.

In the spring of 2005, Kirsten Everberg was commissioned by the city of Nancy in France to begin a series of paintings based on the examination of post-war modernist government built housing, specifically Haute du Lièvre. As in her paintings of the Soviet style hotel in Brno or the Barbican in London, she presents a series of interior spaces, both public and private. These are not a nostalgic look at the modernist period, but with an understanding of how meaning is constructed and controlled. In the same way the paintings are constructed with their drips, pours and seemingly abstract gestures.

Kirsten Everberg was born in Los Angeles, CA and studied at the University of California Los Angeles, California. In 2004, she was included in the Undiscovered Country at the Hammer Museum this was followed by her first one-person museum exhibition at le consortium, Dijon. She lives and works in Los Angeles.
