LA CONDITION HUMAINE, LEONARDO BOSCANI
10.07.2018 - 10.10.2018

THE HUMAN CONDITION is the exhibition that the FRAC Corsica presents, in Corti, in two stages with Leonard Boscani from July 10 to October 10, 2018 and Simonetta Fadda from October 20, 2018 to January 20, 2019, two artists present in the collection. Title indicates their field of observation, analysis, work and action.

Leonard BOSCANI lives and works in Sassari. Very active culturally and socially, he is a public figure at the initiative of spectacular actions that brought together many participants. He works on contemporary issues related to the territories and their human impact on a global scale. He uses various modes of expression: photo, drawing, video, sculpture, performance.

Simonetta FADDA lives and works between Savona and Milan. She is a videographer and media theorist (photo, film, video, sound technology) and teaches at the School of Fine Arts in Milan (Brera) and the School of Cinema and Television Luchino Visconti (Milan). Her work is focused on the dynamics of the gaze in the contemporary era with respect to social rituals with a highly critical anthropological approach.

In an interview with Antonello Fresu, published in the magazine Ziqqurat in September 2002, when the critic makes the remark that it is in adulthood he arrived at the Contemporary Art unlike most of the artists, Leonardo Boscani replies that he was 37 years old: "Only then did I realize that art could become the most appropriate means of communication for my experience. Until then, my main activity was essentially political.”

Indeed, the artistic practice did not correspond to a renunciation of his convictions; it affirmed them by diffusing them in another space where they could also resound. In reality, Leonardo Boscani has been drawing from an early age and it was very young that his political commitment was expressed when he took an active part in the protest movements of the 1970s.

It is not a question of Leonardo Boscani exposing theses even if his culture could give him the means but, as he says, to share strong experiences, feelings lived. Leonardo Boscani is known and respected in Sardinia and Italy because it gives shape to human values, solidarity and openness that concern all those who, from near or far, are interested in the future. of the world and believe in the power of culture is that it can express a deep criticism. Sardinia is his country his traditions his news inspires him; it is its anchor from which it apprehends the upheavals, the trials that reach countries and populations suffering and loss of bearings and it analyzes with as much acuity of risk situations closer unfortunately unmarked.

All that Boscani says goes through form and forms. He uses some anchored in the memory of all (commercials, famous reports) that he likes to pervert to give them a critical dimension even more effective than their initial message. There is always enthusiasm for fantasy, derision, and irony also in his critical approach. Boscani believes in man, he is awake, he does not let anything pass. He is in a constant struggle lucid and without bitterness, sure of herself. And experience gives him reason: when he implements actions that are of great performance, he mobilizes a very large number of participants happy to be active.

At FRAC Corsica, most of the works presented were specially produced for the exhibition. The video film ORACOLI is a work that was realized in 2008 from a performance/show in Nuoro during the exhibition MONDO e TERRA conceived by the FRAC at the invitation of the Museo MAN (Nuoro Art Museum).
