press release

A thick cloud of dust is spreading quickly. It’s invading streets, covering buildings, cars, the few passers-by, until the camera itself gets swallowed into it. It is the possible disaster screenplay of Laurent Grasso's exhibition.

This video is the starting point of the exhibition. The image repeats itself as a pattern, projected in large- framed size. The viewer also gets questioned on the status of the event as well as its perception.

In another artwork, the image is broadcast in black and white on a sixties screen, creating a time-shift. Laurent Grasso organizes this exhibition through a series of displacements of the image on different scales and visual aids. Photographs hanging on the wall in the darkness echo the video with pictures of the clouded mass on black background. A blue neon which outline represents a cloud reads the word “projection”.

Through several references to the same element, the spectator of Laurent Grasso’s artwork is confronted with the ambiguous issue of the principle of reality, the relation to images and information.
