Leigh Bowery

Contemporary Fine Arts freut sich, eine Hommage an den Modedesigner, Performancekünstler und Grenzgänger Leigh Bowery (1961-1994) präsentieren zu dürfen.

Leigh Bowery war eine der schillerndsten Figuren der Londoner Szene der 80er und frühen 90er Jahre. Durch seine spektakulären Performances, phantastischen Kostüme und Auftritte als „lebendes Kunstwerk“ beeinflusste er Musiker wie Boy George oder Avantgarde-Designer wie Vivienne Westwood. Dem Maler Lucian Freud diente er als Aktmodell und Muse. Bekanntheit erlangte er zudem durch seine Kooperation mit dem Tänzer Michael Clark sowie als Begründer des legendären Nachtclubs „Taboo“ in London.

In der Ausstellung Leigh Bowery zeigt Contemporary Fine Arts neben Fotografien von Fergus Greer auch Filme von und über den Künstler.

Contemporary Fine Arts is pleased to present homage to the fashion designer, performance artist and boundary breaker Leigh Bowery (1961-1994).

Leigh Bowery was one of the most dazzling figures of the London scene in the eighties and early nineties. With his spectacular performances, fantastic costumes and appearances as a “living artwork” he influenced musicians like Boy George and avant-garde designers like Vivienne Westwood. He served the painter Lucian Freud as a nude model and muse. Further notoriety he gained by cooperating with the dancer Michael Clark and as the founder of the legendary nightclub “Taboo” in London.

In the exhibition "Leigh Bowery" Contemporary Fine Arts shows photographs by Fergus Greer as well as films from and with the artist.
