press release

LOOP FAIR is the first fair dedicated exclusively to video art. The 4th edition of the fair, from May 19th to the 21st, 2006 in Barcelona, will offer an exciting showcase of international premieres. 40 leading galleries in video from around the world will present new works by emerging and established artists.

The LOOP fair proposes to make Barcelona a meeting point for artists, critics, gallerists, collectors, museum directors, curators and all types of public interested in video art. In the fair, gallerists show works in their hotel rooms, the video art enthusiast can sit on the bed and watch the videos and feel as if s/he were at home. The intimate environment helps make LOOP a 'friendly' fair and an open place to exchange views and ideas about video art.

Further, a parallel space, Video Zone, presents the collections of major video art distributors, and a diverse display of the latest contemporary art publications and magazines. The fair also hosts Video Feedback a three-day series of collector's presentations, roundtables, conferences and workshops on the critical issues and practical matters of video art.

OFF LOOP'06

Video art is no longer the latest vanguard. Video art is now and increasingly a medium chosen by creators to develop all types of audiovisual narratives. The ¨democratization¨ of its use has allowed not only for its access to a larger population, but also for permeability with other disciplines, interacting with them in projects of creation and expression of multiple formats.

In 2003 OFF-LOOP was launched, a platform with its epicentre in Barcelona with the aim of bringing together synergies, promoting and giving visibility to video art projects and artistic creation related to the video format.

Three editions later, OFF LOOP'06 continues to bet on the cultural dynamization of institutional spaces, independent cultural spaces and sites of leisure. For this, the project supports and is supported by artists, festivals, producers, collectives and national and international projects.

Through the collaboration with diverse platforms and from the premise of giving visibility and stimulating work networks and above all, with the aim of a discursive coherence and respect towards artistic work, OFF LOOP proposes a dialectical programming in diverse more or less inter-connected spaces. The program at the same time incorporates independently organized activities whose contribution is essential for an expanded vision of the wide spectrum of contemporary culture that is approached.

OFF-LOOP '06 envisions itself like a space-time of cultural exchange and intergenerational, interclass, and intergenre dialogue producing multi-disciplinarity.

Trying to find a balance between extension and density, the program seeks to explore the directions of video creation and the ties of video with other fields and likewise put in relief in the multiple models of reproduction and distribution of video as a format and support.

The realization of this project would not have been possible without the support and cooperation of each one of the agents involved in the development of the program, likewise the collaborators and interlocutors whose stimulus has been fundamental. To all and each one of you, thank you.
