Los Carpinteros: Inventing the World

Los Carpinteros: Inventing the World is the first major museum exhibition to survey the work of the Cuban collective Los Carpinteros (The Carpenters). Los Carpinteros challenge many of our basic assumptions about the nature of culture and recent thinking about globalization. They exploit their Cuban roots and explore the rhythm and structure of the city as they reinvent and recast features of the urban landscape of Havana. This mid-career retrospective will include a selection of drawings, paintings, prints, installations and sculptures, and be a significant part of the celebration of Caribbean cultures being hosted by the city of Tampa, and the USF College of Visual & Performing Arts, and other cultural institutions.
