press release

Yvon Lambert Paris is pleased to announce Later, Louise Lawler’s third solo exhibition at the gallery. The exhibition will open on December 9, 2010 and be on view until January 15, 2011.   Louise Lawler (born 1947, Bronxville, NY) primarily works in the medium of photography, capturing artworks in museums, auction houses and galleries, as well as in private settings such as storage spaces and collector’s homes. Lawler reflects the social, aesthetic, and economic aspects of the work she photographs, elucidating its placement, value and relationship to its surroundings.   Later features images Lawler took in Yves Saint Laurent’s apartment as Christie’s prepared for the 2008 sale of the late designer’s art collection, dubbed by many as the “sale of the century”. In these photographs, Lawler captures the exotic hot house environment of the reclusive designer, focusing on the elaborate and rare objects, furniture, floral arrangements and art with which he surrounded himself.   In addition to discreet photographs, the exhibition features two extremely large wall murals.  One is a densely detailed photograph blown up to fill a large gallery wall; the other is an impressionistic photograph (taken with a cell phone) stretched to wrap around the gallery walls.
