Following an acclaimed worldwide tour, the Phillips’s renowned collection of American masterworks returns to the museum. The exhibition tells the story of American art from the late 19th-century to the mid-20th century when American art became a significant global force after World War II. This extensive exhibition features more than 200 works by over 120 artists and will occupy nearly two-thirds of the museum’s galleries. Artists include Milton Avery, Stuart Davis, Richard Diebenkorn, Arthur Dove, Edward Hopper, Jacob Lawrence, John Marin, Robert Motherwell, Georgia O’Keeffe, Mark Rothko, John Sloan, Clyfford Still, and many others.
