Make Room: Interventions into the Garman Ryan Collection

Make Room uses contemporary works acquired by the gallery in recent years to make interventions with the gallery’s Garman Ryan Collection’s themed rooms. The display dynamically merges together historic art and contemporary art, enabling viewers to explore the many unusual and exciting connections between the new art and old and making room for new experiences.

Featured artists include: Jordan Baseman, Monica Bonvicini, Giacomo Brunelli, Dorothy Cross, Tracey Emin, Richard Forster, Cameron Galt, Darryl Georgiou, Jessica Harrison, Howard Hodgkin, Alison Jackson, Hazel Jones, Juneau Projects, Gary Kirkham, Elizabeth LeMoine, Hilary Lloyd, Tom Ormond, Nick Relph & Oliver Payne, Jo Roberts, Daniel Sinsel, Sarah Staton, Erika Verzutti, Terrence Warren and Richard Wentworth.

The Garman Ryan Collection was given to Walsall in 1972 by Kathleen Garman and is on display in The New Art Gallery Walsall in a series of themed rooms and the Permanent Collection was started by Walsall Council in 1892 as part of their vision to give the town access to culture. This collection continues to develop today.
