Martina Sauter: Mur-Mur

Martina Sauter finished her study as Meisterschüler on the Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie in the Thomas Ruff class this year.

On the art fair Art Amsterdam 2006 she won the Thieme Art Award. She also won the Young Artists on the Road price and shows now work in the Ludwig Forum in Aachen.

We asked her to make new work, she took as a theme brik walls and called her project Mur-Mur that also directs to the French verb murmurer, what means to mumble.

During viewing Hitchcock's movie The Man Who Knew Too Much from 1955 with Doris Day and James Stewart she choosed a number of film-stills. She placed the film-still next to a photo of herself, which she put on stage. The end work is a photo-collage. There exists a borderline between the film-still and her own photo.

In this way, Martina Sauter explores the strong movie images by making them stationary, placing them out of their context.
