press release

Jacob van Ruisdael is one of the greatest Dutch artists of the 17th century, and the greatest landscape painter of that period, with fame comparable to Frans Hals or Rembrandt. Although there have been a couple of exhibitions devoted to his work, this exhibition showcases the very finest paintings by the artist. Curated by Seymour Slive, former director of the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University and the world’s authority on the artist, the exhibition includes approximately 70 paintings, including a painting recently gifted to LACMA by Mr. and Mrs. Edward Carter, The Great Oak.
