This exhibition focuses on work produced by Chilean-born artist Roberto Sebastian Matta between 1939 to 1948, when he lived in exile in the United States. Bringing together 19 paintings and 22 drawings from this important period, Matta in America:Paintings and Drawings of the 1940s explores the artist's relationship to surrealism and his forging of an individual artistic language. The exhibition is co-organized by Elizabeth A. T. Smith, chief curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and Colette Dartnall, independent curator.
