Artist Talk: Meg Cranston February 28th, 2008, 7pm Opening Reception: February 28th, 2008, 8pm

Mercer Union is pleased to present two new exhibitions Every Dog in the Pound by Meg Cranston Three Bedroom Flat by Adrienne Spier

Meg Cranston is an artist, curator, writer and professor. Born in New York in 1960, she now resides in Los Angeles. Her work has been shown internationally since 1988.She received an M.F.A from California Institute of the Arts in 1986 and a B.A. in Anthropology/Sociology in 1982. She also attended the Jan van Eyck Akademie in Maastricht, The Netherlands. She is a Professor at Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles. She has been the recipient of grants from the Penny McCall Foundation, The John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, The Anonymous Was A Woman Foundation and the J.Paul Getty Trust. Her work is the subject of the forthcoming book, Hot Pants in A Cold Cold World published by Artspace/Clouds and JP Ringier. Exhibitions of her work at the Dundein Public Art Gallery and the Getty Museum of Art will run concurrent with her exhibition at Mercer Union. Leah Sandals is a freelance art writer and editor based in Toronto. She is a regular contributor to the National Post and NOW Toronto, and has also been published in Flash Art, Sculpture, Canadian Art, Border Crossings, C Magazine, the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star and other outlets. Sandals has also worked as an editor for Spacing Magazine, the CONTACT Festival and YYZ Books. Studies at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and life experiences in cities across North America form the basis of her critical and editorial perspective.

Adrienne Spier was born in Montreal and has lived and worked in both Montreal and Toronto. She has an MFA from Concordia University, completed the Independent Studio Program at the Toronto School of Art, and has a BA in Fine Art from University of Guelph. Her work has been exhibited in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Guelph, and Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Her next show will be in April 2008 in Berlin, Germany at Circus Gallery.
