Meuser has created eight new sculptures for his first solo exhibition in the Americas which will take place at the Museum of Contemporary Art, MARCO, in Monterrey, Mexico from February 2 to July 23, 2023. These sculptures establish a dialogue both with the artist’s body of work as well as the industrial history of the Ruhr Valley and Monterrey. Mainly made from steel scrap metal – a material essential to both regions’ development – the pieces appear like relics from the industrial age carrying remnants of dirt and hard labor. A rough sense of humor often reverberates in Meuser’s titles and traces the artist’s biography back to the Ruhr Valley, home to both the promise and the downfall of industrialization in 20th century Germany.
