Michael Lin

As part of the 02art series at The Contemporary Museum, Honolulu, the Paris-based Taiwanese artist Michael Lin has produced his first outdoor, site-specific installation. Painted on the former tennis court of the museum’s Spalding House, Lin’s installation rehabilitates the court from years of disuse, making it once again functional and available to museum visitors to play on for the duration of the exhibition.

In July Lin will incorporate the installation as the setting for his first video project, produced by the Honolulu production studio, Madskill Productions.

This exhibition has been organized by Michael Rooks, Curator, The Contemporary Museum and is generously sponsored by the the Laila Art Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation, with additional in-kind support by HONBLUE, Pacific Recreation, Honolulu and Richard Malmgren.

Michael Lin was born in Tokyo in 1964. Lin has had solo exhibitions at the Kunsthalle Wien (2005), P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, Long Island (2004), The Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis (2004), Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2003), The Stadhuis den Haag, The Hague (2002), among others. He has participated in group exhibitions at the Mori Art Mueum, Tokyo, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (2004), Palais des Beaux Art, Lille (2003), Kunstmuseum, Lucerne, Switzerland (2003), Musee d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Paris (2002), Gwangju Biennial (2002), Liverpool Biennial (2002), 49th Biennial of Venice, Taiwan Pavilion (2001), 7th Istanbul Biennial, Istanbul (2001), Kiasma Museum, Helsinki, (2001), and SMAK, Gent (2001), among many others.
