press release

Nathalie Djurberg, who is from Western Sweden, is one of our most internationally acclaimed artists. Her animations attract and challenge both through expression and content. With the pliability of the clay, and with music and sound effects by Hans Berg, the darkest side of human nature is explored. Without hesitation, Djurberg examines such basic emotions as revenge, lust, submission and gluttony. The conventionally innocent technique of »claymation« becomes a medium for conveying nightmarish metaphors of human behavior and social taboos. Djurberg´s and Berg´s artistry shows that we are all capable of engaging in forms of analysis and critique that don’t need highly specialized education, but a creative use of the brain and a reconsideration of the playfulness of our childhood.

The exhibition shows parts of Djurberg’s and Berg´s extensive production. It also presents a new installation, specifically created for Röda Sten Art Centre.
