press release

"Conscious of the paradox implied in its title, the exhibition, Sólo los personajes cambian, brings together a handful of Mexican artists whose works explore the lesser or the secondary through actions, gestures and stories that re-evaluate and demystify some of the myths and symbols of our cultural horizon."

MARCO now presents the results of their efforts: Sólo los personajes cambian, an exhibition that brings together the works of twelve artists and a collective who were either born in Mexico or who have chosen Mexico as a place to work. The curatorial work was undertaken by Magalí Arriola, Parick Charpenel and Ana Elena Mallet, who has also acted as coordinator of the project.

Conscious of the paradox implied in its title, the exhibition, Sólo los personajes cambian confronts the excessive discursivity of the artist panorama, bringing together a handful of Mexican artists whose works explore the lesser or the secondary through actions, gestures or stories that reassess or demystify some of the everyday myths and historical symbols that dominate our cultural horizon.

With this, MARCO presents the work of twelve individual artists and a collective; women and men ranging in ages from twenty-six to forty-five who are working in Mexico City, Guadalajara, Monterrey and Los Angeles. The entire upper floor of MARCO is dedicated to their work.

Sólo los personajes cambian will also include works by other artists in a special project coordinated by curator Priamo Lozada.
