press release

Speaking about his art, Oskar Koller says that there were two things as a driving force in his painting: always open curiosity toward the visible world and its endless diversity full of colors, as well as his desire to reach the invisible, unknown and the secrecy of the visible. This could be said not only for the painting, but also for his entire work including drawing, lithography, and most of all his watercolors.

Oskar Koller, who died in May 2004, would have celebrated this year his 80th birthday. For this occasion, the Kunsthaus Nuremberg in co-operation with Oskar Koller Foundation presents an exhibition with mainly unknown works, expressing in this way its great respect for one of the most important Nuremberg artists whose work was also internationally recognized. The exhibition is focused on Koller’s early drawings and watercolors from 1956 up to the1980’s all united under the theme of architecture and urban living. These works are giving us also an unknown and unusual view to the Koller’s complex work, and at the same time being important historic documents.
